Terriers TV Review

September 9th, 2010

In case you are completely unaware of your surroundings, Fall is here.  This is the best time of the year.  The Future Mrs. birthday is in September, football starts up, and the new fall TV seasons get started.  Hurray for me.

A new TV show on FX premiered last night.  The show was oddly named Terriers.  I’m still not sure why it’s named Terriers, but it really doesn’t matter.  The show is fantastic!  FX has turned into a top notch Television Network.  Don’t believe me?  Then watch Sons of Anarchy, old episodes of the Shield, or It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Terriers is about a former alcoholic police officer, played by Donal Logue, who now does side jobs with his partner, played by Michael Raymond-James.  The pilot is very strong mainly because Donal Logue is brilliant and his chemistry with Michael Raymond-James is strong.  They’ve set up a story arc that should continue on through out the season.  Typically I love shows that establish something to build towards.  It keeps you engaged even during slower episodes that always seem to happen in the middle of a season.

The pilot was really good and I’m hoping the rest of the season plays out just as well.  My recommendation is to give it a try and see where it leads you.  I give Terriers 4 1/2 boomers out of 5.

Family Guy in real life?

February 25th, 2010

Isn’t it weird when you see the voices of cartoon actors in real life?  Same story here.  The cast, writers, and producers for family guy did a panel discussion at the Paley Center for the Media (whose logo is nauseating once it starts moving, btw).  One of the questioners was wondering whether the voices from old cartoons and sitcoms were the real deal.  Apparently so (even though most of these old shows are lost on me), and he’s pretty funny in asking about it.  PS – for funny, see also Seth Green’s outfit – yikes:

In honor of a crazy bachelor party weekend, here’s: Archer – Episode 2

February 21st, 2010

The fantasychamper-who-never-posts spent the weekend in Vegas at a bachelor party that was . . . just as a bachelor party in Vegas should be.  In honor of this occasion, I present Episode 2 from Archer.  Fitting, much? See for yourself:

The Masturbating Bear returns

January 21st, 2010

As we mentioned before, Conan’s been on a roll the past couple weeks.  I’ve been waiting for the right clip to link, and I think it showed up last night (6 months, and 29 days in the waiting):

Archer – best new show on TV?

January 20th, 2010

Wow – have you seen Archer on FX?  I’d suggest it’s the best new show on TV.  I’ll skip the synopsis, since you should watch each of the three clips below (best of the selection on Hulu).  But suffice it to say it’s got the actor who played Coach McGuirk on Home Movies as the lead (H. Jon Benjamin); take a look:

Note: full epsiodes not available yet on hulu – we’ll link once they’re up.

The Taco Bell diet: GENIUS!

January 20th, 2010

In case you haven’t seen Taco Bell’s latest ads, you should do so, right now.  Click here (or just turn on ESPN).

In short, Taco Bell’s latest ad campaign promotes their food as a way to lose weight!   This is so amazing!  I’d say even better than ads from Mickey D’s (“What We’re Made of“) or Coca-Cola (“Healthy Living“).  Go team!

Or better yet, go to Taco Bueno, which (I think) Kyle says tastes better than Taco Bell anyway.  Maybe he can compare the two in a future post [hint hint].

Top 5 episodes of . . . Laser Cats!

January 18th, 2010

Kyle posted something, so of course I need to bump him out of the top spot.  As a consolation, I’ll attempt to truncate this post, so it’s still possible to see Kyle’s clip of the day headline (i.e., you need to click “Read more” to see this entire post).

More importantly, the Fifth episode of Laser Cats came out last weekend, so of course, now it’s time to rank all five.   All told they’re awesome, and I recommend watching them all now:

I’m with Coco

January 15th, 2010

It looks like Conan’s out, and Leno’s back in.  In the meantime, Conan’s last three Tonight Shows have been awesome, and all the other late-night hosts are raising their games as well.  There’s a lot of great clips floating around; here I’ll share the best clip I’ve seen thus far, where Kimmel excoriates Leno (on Leno’s own show!!) Note: to skip to the juicy stuff, fast forward to question 4 at 1:40:

Have you heard the word?

January 14th, 2010

This Family Guy episode annoys the hell out of most people . . . but it’s one of my favorites:

(note: I would link to Hulu, but they only keep the five most recent episodes of Family Guy. Lame.)

Top 5 Animated Shows

January 14th, 2010

Posting all these animated clips have inspired me to come up with the top 5 current animated show.  The only requirements to make this list is that the shows have to be animated or claymation and still putting out new episodes.

#5:  The Simpsons (FOX) – They’re still funny and sometimes relevant.

#4:  Robot Chicken (Cartoon Network) – Hilarious and disturbing apparently make a good mix.

#3:  South Park (Comedy Central) – Topical humor with kids saying bad words.  What more do you want?

#2:  The Venture Bros. (Cartoon Network) - Ridiculously funny parody show of the cartoons I grew up on.

#1:  Family Guy (FOX) – Do you really need a description?  ROADHOUSE!
