My Review of Fried Bonanza 2010

October 5th, 2010

On Sunday October 3rd myself, preggers, the little man, Kevin, and Tiffany went for an exciting trip to the State Fair.  My strategy for this event was eating as much different fried foods as possible.  Although I didn’t try everything it was still a successful day.

Fletchers Corny Dog:  It’s a classic that you can’t go wrong with.  Best corn dog in the world.

Fried Beer:  It tasted like a super salty pretzel with hot beer inside of it.  My least favorite thing that I tried.

Fried Butter:  It was incredible.  It’s kind of like eating a donut hole with warm butter inside of it.  Plus, they top it off with honey and cinnamon sugar.

Fried Frozen Margarita:  It was different to say the least.  It had a sweet taste mixed with a hint of lime.  Not sure what was in the fried little pieces but it wasn’t bad.

Fried Snickers:  Stephany wanted to give this one a try and it was a good choice.  It makes the snickers warm and melty but without any mess.

Fried Frito Pie:  This was my favorite food barely edging out the fried butter.  It tastes like a frito pie nugget.  The chili, cheese, and fritos are all mixed and warm inside the fried exterior.  Unfortunately I did not take a picture of this.

So if you are going to the State Fair get yourself a Fletcher’s Corny Dog, some Fried Frito Pie, and some Fried Butter or a Fried Snickers for dessert.  Also, if you try the Fried Pizza let me how it is.

Terriers TV Review

September 9th, 2010

In case you are completely unaware of your surroundings, Fall is here.  This is the best time of the year.  The Future Mrs. birthday is in September, football starts up, and the new fall TV seasons get started.  Hurray for me.

A new TV show on FX premiered last night.  The show was oddly named Terriers.  I’m still not sure why it’s named Terriers, but it really doesn’t matter.  The show is fantastic!  FX has turned into a top notch Television Network.  Don’t believe me?  Then watch Sons of Anarchy, old episodes of the Shield, or It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Terriers is about a former alcoholic police officer, played by Donal Logue, who now does side jobs with his partner, played by Michael Raymond-James.  The pilot is very strong mainly because Donal Logue is brilliant and his chemistry with Michael Raymond-James is strong.  They’ve set up a story arc that should continue on through out the season.  Typically I love shows that establish something to build towards.  It keeps you engaged even during slower episodes that always seem to happen in the middle of a season.

The pilot was really good and I’m hoping the rest of the season plays out just as well.  My recommendation is to give it a try and see where it leads you.  I give Terriers 4 1/2 boomers out of 5.

Spicy Chicken Sandwich Review

June 3rd, 2010

Chic-Fil-A has decided to make a spicy version to their amazingly addictive chicken sandwich.  They were giving out free spicy sandwiches to anyone that went to their website and got a reservation for a free one.  The promotion is running for this week since the new sandwich doesn’t get officially released until Monday June 7th.  I picked up my reserved sandwich today.  My official review is that it’s AWESOME!  It’s just as good as their regular chicken sandwich but with a very spicy kick.  So starting Monday I would say run out and get you one.  You’ll thank me later.

Food Review: Jimano’s Pizzeria

March 8th, 2010

Friday night I had the glorious pleasure of having a “quiet” night at home with the family.  As usual, a “quiet” night didn’t turn out to be so quiet.  The wonderfully amazing Future Mrs. decided that we should go to blockbuster and let the Little Man rent out a game or movie.  That’s never a problem considering he had another good week at school.  Well then that led to the Future Mrs. deciding that he should eat what you wants that night.  Well the Little Man has developed an obsession with Subway.  It was no surprise to either one of us that his choice was Subway.  He makes some of the weirdest sandwich combinations ever.  I’m not joking about that either.  The Future Mrs. and I are not huge Subway fans, especially not since the Little Man wants to eat there every night.  Once again, I’m not joking about that.  She suddenly had a craving for pizza.  Anyone that knows me should know that wasn’t going to be an issue with me.  We were going to get Chicago Street Pizza, but we decided to try out a new place in our area.  This is where Jimano’s pizzeria came into play.  They have a few crust options, which is always a good thing.  You can get thin crust, double dough, deep dish, or stuffed pizza.  We decided to go with the double dough, figuring it would be a nice balance between thin crust and deep dish.  They currently have coupons for buy a 16″ or 18″ and get an order of breadsticks for free.  Hell I was going to order a 16″ anyway, so bring on the free breadsticks!  Here’s the bottom line with the pizza, … it’s really really good.  The crust is well made and compliments the pizza quite nicely.  The sauce is rich, the cheese is thick, and the toppings are fresh.  The pizza itself is different then almost anything else you can get around the DFW area.  That in itself makes it a must try for anyone.  I already want to go back and try every other crust to figure out which crust is the best.  On top of that the free breadsticks were good as well.  Just like the pizza the breadsticks are unique.  They taste a lot like a sugar biscuit you would get at a chinese food place, but instead of sprinkled sugar on top you have sprinkled parmesean.  All in all Jimano’s Pizzaria is a top notch pizza place with plenty of choices to choose from.  By the way, the toppings are under the cheese in case you’re looking at the picture kind of weird.  I give it 4 out of 5 Boomers.

Yourway Burgers Review

January 20th, 2010

Wow … Wow … Wow!  My exact words after leaving Yourway Burgers.  Burgers are kind of a tricky business to be in.  If your burgers are really good than you will probably do well, but if your burgers are just average than you’ll sizzle and burn.  Did you like the pun?  There are a crap load of burger places out there and each one claims to have the best burger around.  You really need to step out and do something different to really get my attention.  So I present to you Yourway Burgers in Farmers Branch.  On the surface they seem like your usual burger place.  They offer burgers, chicken tenders, fries, onion rings, milk shakes, and even beer.  The thing they do different is that they don’t nickel and dime you on everything.  You start off by picking what kind of beef you want.  Do you 1/3 pound, 1/2 pound, or maybe you want a turkey burger.  Then you choose from about 5 different bun choices.  Follow that up with the toppings.  All toppings are free, including cheese, except for the premium toppings.  The premium toppings consist of avocado, sautéed mushrooms, and etc.  The premium toppings cost 50 cents each.  Then there’s the infused toppings, which are free of charge.  Infused toppings are toppings that are mixed in the meat before they cook it.  I tried chopped mushrooms infused in my 1/3 pound burger.  That was a decision that I was very happy with.  The burgers were cooked medium well and not over done one bit.  All in all the burgers were fantastic.  The burgers alone would send me back to Yourway, but they also had fantastic curly fries, regular fries, sweet potato fries, and onion rings.  The Future Mrs. enjoyed a wonderful strawberry milk shake as part of the meal, which I clearly also recommend.  I tried this place out because my friend Josh decided he wanted to try it since it just opened.  His decision totally makes up for the fact that he’s an Arizona Cardinal fan.  I don’t know what that has to do with Yourway Burgers, but I felt like I should give him a shout out.  So to sum up, I give the wonderful Yourway Burgers 4.5 Boomers out of 5.

BTW, I need burger place suggestions.  I want to do a top 5 list but there’s a few places I want to eat at first and I don’t want to leave any place out of the mix.  So tell me what your favorite burger place is and I’ll make sure I try it before I do my list.

Food Review of Dodie’s Cajun Diner

January 18th, 2010

In case you were not aware, the past couple of days is considered the weekend.  Typically over the weekend I like to take it easy and enjoy my time away from work.  This usually doesn’t happen since I have a fiancée (The Future Mrs. Fantasy Champ) and a future step-son (Little-Man).  They tend to keep me very busy, and this weekend was no different.  The Little-Man was over at his bio dad’s this weekend so it was just me and the Future Mrs.  We decided to spend our weekend enjoying some new food places and catching up on some movies.  This was mainly do to the fact that she hurt her calf while working out last week.  It hurt for her to walk so we spent a lot of time vegging on the couch.  You won’t hear me complain.

Anyway, on Friday night we decided to try Dodie’s Cajun Diner, which is a new Cajun food place in Frisco.  I love love love Cajun food.  There are very few things better than a meal that includes Crawfish, red beans & rice,  and jambalaya.  I was very excited to try this new place especially considering the Future Mrs. agreed to try it with me and she hates seafood.  We started off with the fried pickles which is the Future Mrs. favorite food.  They were extremely good but extremely expensive.  Let me just say that everything at Dodie’s was overpriced.  The pickles were battered and fried to perfection.  This made us very excited about the rest of the meal.  The Future Mrs. got the Pasta Monica which is pasta in a Parmesan cream sauce.  She loved it and I thought it was pretty good.  I ordered the fried plate with the chicken tenders and the crawfish tails.  The chicken tenders were dry, flavorless, and kinda skimpy.  The crawfish tails  were nice, but honestly they weren’t anything special.  The fries and hushpuppies that came with the meal were good on a whole, but they didn’t give a whole lot especially for the price.  All in all the pasta and fried pickles were really good, the chicken tenders were horrible, and the rest was ok.  I want to try the ettoufee next time and maybe my review will change, but for right now I give Dodie’s Cajun Diner 3 out of 5 boomers.
