Dallas Mavericks Top Ten with David Letterman

June 27th, 2011

This was a poor Top Ten list overall.  Chuckle-worthy, but it wasted a lot of talent.  Seriously, Shawn Marion and Caron Butler could make it on reality TV, and Mark Cuban rattles off better one-liners all the time.

That said, the ending was great.  Dirk presents the #1 reason, and it’s Finals-MVP worthy:

Mavs Fan: A Love Letter

June 13th, 2011

It started the moment I started playing YMCA basketball when I was 5 years old (roughly 1987-1988).

Crying over unspilt milk

If you watched the Mavs win over OKC on Monday, you probably noticed some calls ranging from questionable to terrible that went against both teams.  Rob Mahoney from the twomangame.com uploaded video of a “non-call” that slipped past me during the game.  This video explains it, complete with a groove soundtrack.

Pre-PS.  I think the real “untold” story in this game was how terribly Dallas rebounded, and how terribly both teams took care of the ball.  The rebounding and turnover lines looked like (Dallas – OKC):

Reb (Off) 5 – 20,  (For reference: Reb (Tot): 33 – 55)

TO: 13 – 25

So in some sense, the Mavs gave the Thunder an extra 15 possessions off the offensive glass, but the Thunder returned the favor by turning the ball over 12 more times, effectively evening out either team’s advantage.  It’s also worth noting that the TOs at halftime were something like 11-11, so Dallas clearly took care of the ball better in the second half.  I don’t have stats to back it up, but it sure seemed that Dallas boxed out much better and grabbed rebounds on offensive stops during the last five minutes.

Like the non-call described below, this point is moot since the Mavs won the game.  Here’s hoping the Mavs continue their last five minutes play, and prevent the box from looking like this again tonight.

Champ of the Week 6/28/10 – 7/5/10

July 6th, 2010

I could’ve gone with Brock Lesnar, Joey Chestnut, the Netherlands soccer team, or even the Los Angeles Clippers for getting a meeting with Lebron.  Instead I went with the Dallas Mavericks for resigning the Big German Dirk Nowitzki.  Way to go Mavs!
